One of the most recognizable and incomparable voices in gospel music, CeCe Winans has sold millions of albums during her 25-year music career. The beautiful, charismatic singer has garnered eight Grammy Awards, twenty-one Dove Awards, gold and platinum albums, a host of #1 Gospel and Top Ten R&B hits and numerous other awards and recognition. Despite her undeniable popularity, she has maintained a reputation as one of the friendliest people in the music industry.
The eighth of ten children, Winans was raised in Detroit, Michigan with a strong church foundation. She sang her first church solo at the age of eight. In 1987, BeBe & CeCe Winans signed an unprecedented gospel-recording contract with Sparrow Records that allowed Capitol Records to promote BeBe & CeCe’s music in the urban market. Over the next eight years, they enjoyed R&B chart smashes including “Lost Without You,” “Heaven,” and “It’s Okay.” Their tunes “I’ll Take You There” and “Addictive Love” both reached number 1 on the R&B charts. When BeBe & CeCe released their much-anticipated reunion CD – their first full project in fifteen years – titled Still, the smooth single, “Close to You,” quickly reached number 1 on the gospel charts and top 10 on the Urban AC charts. Winans is as popular and in demand now as when she first started her career over two decades ago.
Because her audience is so diverse, Winans has often alternated praise and worship CD releases with more urban/pop sets. Her latest solo effort is a first-ever compilation of greatest hits entitled For Always…The Best of CeCe Winans. To make it even more special, Winans recorded a new song entitled “More,” written by her son, Alvin Love III and co-produced by Alvin along with Cedric and Victor Caldwell for Caldwell Plus Productions. While pulling together the songs for this project and reflecting on her illustrious career Winans had this to say: “It is with the fondest of memories that I offer songs that through the years have allowed me to pray, praise, cry and worship with those who listened to my music. God’s call on my life to be a blessing and encouragement to people is why I do what I do. Nine solo projects later the call is greater than ever before, and I am truly grateful to everyone who has prayed for and supported me. As these songs are listened to, my heart’s desire is that everyone is reminded that God is the same yesterday, today and forever. I love God’s people with the love of the Lord and the best is yet to come!
The 10 song album contains new songs and radio singles “More”, “Well Alright”, “More Than What I Wanted”, “Alabaster Box”, “I Surrender All”, “Waging War”, “For Always”, “Hallelujah Praise”, “Pray” and “Everlasting Love”.
CeCe will be touring as co-host with Donald Lawrence and performing “More” with the 15 city Verizon ‘How Sweet The Sound Choir Competition’ beginning September 7 – November 13, 2010. (For information on these and other CeCe Winans appearances and booking please visit www.cecewinans.com.)
